The Haynes manual is singularly unhelpful on how to remove the lids of the filter housings. In this one, you seem to have to wedge back the surrounding lip bit-by-bit and prise the top out like the lid of a paint tin.

Also I have the points (part no. 238859) and condensor (part no. 241397) ready to go, but I didn't have the tools or time to get around to them. Sadly the oil filter I ordered was the wrong part, so I'll add the correct part number when I've worked it out.
KGA seems to start a litle more readily, and I'm sure the clean air filter will help it breathe more easily. I see there are some twin SU carbs goin on eBay at the moment though...

The air filter shown on your B18A isn't designed to be opened. It's a throw away item unfortunately but only has to be changed every 25000miles. It's possible to get the top off as you've found and a new filter can be matched up. If you want to do a really neat job you'll need another filter so that you make a lid from one go on the body of the other.
Extra - The oil filter is common to many Volvo models, all the red blocks and even later RWD models. Not expensive from your local Volvo dealer and recomended.
Twin carbs will give you nothing except poorer fuel consumption unless you upgrade the cam and skim a little off the head. Changing to the later twin downpipe manifold with the Stromberg semi side draught worth about 5bhp but needs a new front exhaust pipe to match. Fitting the matching Simons sports exhaust instead makes better use of the cash and gives another couple bhp.
